Tales From Wyrd

This book is a complete guide to playing Tales From Wyrd. It goes over all the rules, covers character creation, lore and legends, a section for running the game (story tellers guide), and an introductory adventure that shows how the rules of the game work in context. The intro adventure can be completed in two sessions of 2-3 hours or one long section, and it comes with pre-made characters. 

Tales From Wyrd is a narrative focused TTRPG. Combat is kept simple and there are less rules than your average TTRPG. Character creation is focused around backstory and roleplay. Tales From Wyrd takes focus away from combat and optimization for the sake of narrative freedom. Specifically for people who want to make characters who are not strong. For people who want to roleplay as the weak historian, who has never cast a spell or touched a blade in their life. You can still create the blade or spellmaster, but power is not the only way to get yourself out of a dangerous situation. Any skill can be used if the player has the imagination. More on this in the combat section of the book. 

The rules of this game should be very familiar if you have played other TTRPGs. Most rules boil down to rolling a dice and adding modifiers. Tales From Wyrd sets itself apart with its unique setting, Wyrd, and the rules made specifically to suit this setting. Namely, Corruption and Courage. 

In the world of the game, greed is represented by Corruption. Corruption has a great influence on the world of Wyrd. It is a force as powerful as magic. It will affect your characters for the worse. Corruption will also attract the attention of creatures who feed upon it. Most notably, the Shadow. An outer god born amongst the stars. 

Courage is the system that counterbalances corruption. It is a resource available to your characters. With it, you can influence fate and turn even the worst odds in favor. 

Courage and Corruption are tied together with your character’s backstory. How you gain either is determined by your actions and your history. 

This game takes place in a dark world. Being heroic is a tough choice, it is not guaranteed that you will succeed in your efforts. The world is balanced against you. You will never be as powerful as your greatest foes. But there is always hope. At least for those who move towards it.
